Farmhouse Toddler Room Design

Hello there!  I am so excited to share my design board for our two year old's farmhouse toddler room!  We've lived in our farmhouse for about ten months now, and I've had plenty of time to dream up some plans.  Here is a collection of what I have in mind.

I'm looking for that farmhouse feel with the farm animals, and rustic woods and chippy paint.  But then I'm bringing in that vintage elegant touch with the mint/sage and cream peony wallpaper, floral fabrics, the brass and crystal chandelier.. and of course shiplap!

I've had my eye on this picket fence bed for over a year now!  I can't wait to build it!  I haven't decided if I will stain the wood, or paint it cream.  But I love the design. You can find the plans on Jen Woodhouse's blog!

Here are some before pictures of Scarlett's room.  I have now peeled off the red and white polkadot wallpaper, and red molding.  I'm hoping we can get an actual air conditioner in here this summer, and add some ducting to her room and our master bedroom.  Then we could get rid of the baseboard heaters!!

I have most of the planking done now, and just have some bottom pieces to finish up.  Then I can paint a few coats of my favorite creamy white paint.  It's called Vintage, by Valspar.  I get that at Lowes.

I'm also going to replace the baseboards with a tall molding to match the rest of our farmhouse.  Our house was built in 1910, but the master and this room were added on in the 70's.  I want this side of the house to feel like it was always here.  So I think adding those classic moldings and lighting will really tie it together.

The wallpaper I picked out is a Waverly design, called Forever Yours.

I've had this adorable vintage farm animal poster for months now.  It's actually a thick sheet of wrapping paper I picked up from a store called The Nest.  It was the inspiration behind her farmhouse room design.  Well that and the fact that we do live in a farmhouse! :)

Well, that's it!  I will post updates when I have a few to show!  I'm up to my forehead in custom building and furniture restoration right now.  So, my fun little project will take a little longer.

I hope your day is blessed and you feel inspired to create and enjoy your home and family!

French Gray and Cream Secretary

Happy Easter my friends!  I hope you have had a great day spending time with your families and celebrating that Jesus is ALIVE!  It's fun to dye eggs and eat candy too, but the hope we have been given by the resurrection of our Savior is what Easter is all about!  I spent the day with my family and loved every minute of it.

So today I'm sharing a new piece I took over to the shop a couple of days ago.  I really love all of the cubbies and drawers this secretary desk has.  Great storage and lot's of character!

I decided to leave the inside it's beautiful mahogany finish. I think it adds a warmth and richness to the desk.

I painted the whole desk in a soft light gray, and accented the drawers and cubbies with cream.  Then everything got a nice messy glaze for that perfect antique patina!

I also dropped off this cute little antique chair I redid.  It boasts one of my favorite new fabrics in a chunky gray and white striped upholstery.  The chair doesn't have a glaze but I think it could go great with the desk.

That's it for today I guess!  Have a great rest of your Easter and a wonderful week.  Thanks for stopping by!

Wood Planked Farm Table, and Spring at the Shop!

Happy Spring my friends!  I am so excited that it has finally arrived!  Our trees have been blossoming for a couple weeks now, and it just puts me in the best mood.  New life, a new season, bring it on!

So today I'm sharing a table that didn't start off terrible, but needed some new life itself. ;)  I bought this table mostly for the legs.. I love the fluted turned posts and saw all the potential it had to offer.  The table top was not real wood, so when I first bought it, I had planned to paint the entire thing and do a shabby chic type look.  But you know me and my wood stained tops!  I just couldn't do it.  So I turned it over onto it's top and unscrewed the skirt and legs from it.  I had to hit the skirt a few times with my hammer to break the seal of the glue.  Next I took my already cut to size pine wood planks and laid them out on the floor.  I placed my legs and skirt evenly on top of the planks, and screwed it all down to the new top.  A couple 2x4's were added for additional support.  Next step was to do the usual finishing process.  I LOVE how this table turned out.  If I had a larger dining room, I would keep it for myself!  But I don't, so someone else will have the chance to become the lucky owner ;)

I glazed the base of the table to give it that rich antiqued look.  Made a huge difference in the overall look of the table.

My shop has needed a boost of life for a few months now, so I had a blast adding the fresh spring florals to my vignettes.

I am so in love with these two french chairs I redid.  So versatile and could go anywhere really.

I also brought this cute little French side table to the shop.

I have lot's of plans to add more character to my shop, including redoing the floors both inside the trailer and also in the barn room.  I think that will make a huge difference in the overall appearance of the space.  I hope you are enjoying some extra hours of sunshine each day and hopefully warmer temperatures as well!  Thank you as always for stopping by for a visit!

Take Care,

A Custom Bookshelf Makeover

Today I'm sharing my latest makeover!  I've had this bookcase in my garage for over a year now, and finally decided it was time for her overhaul!

It's not like it started out that bad, but I saw a lot more potential.  Plus any excuse to make sometime more my own always sounds good to me.  So this piece was custom built out of alder wood.  It has some lovey moldings to start with, and also features adjustable shelves.
I didn't get a picture of the shelves, but they were just your standard 3/4" thick shelves.  I personally love a more beefed up look ;)  So I ran the shelves through my table saw and then pin nailed an 1 1/2" self edge to the fronts.  So now the shelves look double the size and this was honestly so simple to do.  I must admit, this was my first time using the table saw, all by myself, with no one around... I felt like such a big girl! haha.  I just get nervous using that tool.  Probably because everyone that has one has told me not to cut my fingers off.  Way to freak me out people!

After my shelves were complete, I decided I wanted an applique on here somewhere, so I simply just cut a 1x4 piece of pine to size, and pocket holed it into the top and sides.  I applied wood glue as well for extra strength.  Next I simply glued my applique on, and used my micro nail gun to secure it.  Walla!  Now we're talkin!

I gave the whole thing a few coats of a gorgeous creamy white paint, did some distressing and sealed her up!

Have you done some fun makeovers recently?  I love making new creations out of boring things!  Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

French Country Farmhouse Table and Decor

Today I'm sharing my latest restored farm table set, along with all the little French Country tableware's and decor. I don't know about you, but by January 1st, I'm ready for spring and summer!  I'm just a sunshine weather kind of girl.  The cold, dark winter days are just not on my favorite things list. ;)  But don't worry, I do realize I have a few more months of winter!

I wanted to give this farm table a rich country look, so I stained the top in one of my favorite chocolatey browns, called Provincial. (by Minwax).  I actually gave the top two coats of stain for a deeper, darker color.  I finished the top of the table and the benches with a wipe on Polyurethane.  The base of the table, benches, and the chairs are painted in the usual color of my choice, Vintage by Valspar.  I pick this up at Lowes.  It's just the perfect creamy white paint color.

I built two of my custom Vintage Benches to go with the table.  If you ask me, a farmhouse table always has to have at least one bench! :)

With all of this cold and dreary weather, I decided to brighten things up a bit at my shop.  I wanted a lot of white of course, and just enough blue!

Below, I used an old tin bucket to hold some greenery and vintage utensils.  I stencil painted a blue farm cow on the front, and then drilled two holes on each side so I could add the rope handles.  I love this little bucket now!

When rummaging through things at a vintage shop last week, I found this really neat little fruit crate.  Table Grapes of California. It has warm wood tones, and BLUE writing!  Perfect for my table scape!  This crate was actually the inspiration for the whole look.  I found two of these, so I decided to keep one for myself :)

When creating a display at the shop, I try to build up as much as possible to create height and more display space.  So I built this mini farmhouse bench using scrap wood from my workshop, and finished it to match the table.  I think it turned out adorable and I'm definitely going to be making more of these.  I may try all sorts of fun colors too.

I threw in a few copper accents and these really cool French canisters with copper lids.  These are some of my favorites!  And then there are the white canisters with the black label writing on them.  This set is available in my Etsy Shop.

I came across a couple of cute wooden chairs this past week as well.  One I left the original stained color, and the other I painted in a vintage creamy white and distressed it.  I threw in some blue and white ticking stripe, and whatever dishes I could find with that gorgeous blue patina.

And then there is the burlap table runner with the blue farmhouse cow.  I am in love with this runner!  I will definitely be making more of these and listing them in my Etsy Shop as well.  If this is something you're interested in ordering ahead of time, feel free to contact me via email!

And what's a French Country table scape without a little white cow creamer?  I just LOVE these cow creamers.  I get all giddy when I come across one!

The bowl tucked under the rest that has the sweet blue flowers on it is from France.. Just love it!

So there you have it.  My French Country Farmhouse table and decor.  I'm in love, and I hope you had fun looking at my gallery of pictures!  There were a lot!  Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and a great week!  Thank you as always for stopping by!
