Custom Built X-Brace Console Table

Good morning friends!  I hope you are staying warm as well as sane durning the hustle and bustle of this season.

Things have been pretty hectic around here as we are trying to move my mom into the cottage we've been building for her on our property.  I don't think we realized just how much work it would take for it all to come together!  But we are near the finish line, as a matter of fact, she's moving in today!  I will be putting together a post highlighting the process of building her cute little Modern Farmhouse Cottage.  Look for that in the near future!

Today, I'm sharing some pictures of a custom console table I just finished and delivered yesterday!  My friend found a table she liked on Pinterest, and Rogue Engineer has detailed plans to work from, including a materials list, cut list, and lot's of pictures!  Thanks Rogue Engineer!  You can find the plans here!  I had to customize mine a bit to fit my clients needs.  So my top is 13"deep, verses the 16" the plan calls for.  I stained it in Ebony, and seal it with three coats of wipe on Polyurethane in satin.

The grains you see with pieces made out of fir and pine are seriously gorgeous!  Sometimes they can have a more simple look, and then you get some really wild sections thrown in there!  A dark stain will really bring all of that character out.

I scored a few weeks ago on this gorgeous floral arrangement from Pottery Barn!  It was part of their Fall Clearance!!  I love the mix of colors and texture in this arrangement.  Just thought I'd share!

While out shopping for a new sofa for Mom, I came across this adorable Ferris Wheel picture display.  Does this not remind you of Joanna Gaines's style from Fixer Upper?  I fell in love and my Mom bought it for me as an early Christmas present!  I still need to replace the cute little girl in frames with pictures of my own three cute little girls! :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each of you!

Historic Marble Desk and Custom Mahogany Conference Table

So these past couple months, I have been working on this beautiful custom project.  My client had pulled these gorgeous 4" thick marble slabs out of a historic building in Downtown Boise before it was remodeled.  The building dates back to the late 1800's!  How cool is that!?  He was inspired by them and wanted them for his desk top.  That's where I came in.  We sat and drew up a quick design for the desk, and a conference table to match.  The design was tweaked a few times, and I believe we ended up with the best result!

Everything is constructed out of gorgeous Mahogany, and received several coats of a rich Ebony stain.  Talk about a stunning contrast!

The marble weighs several hundred pounds, so coming up with something sturdy and safe was very important.  We designed a steal frame to support the marble and keep it from sagging or caving over time.

This project was going into another historic building in Downtown Boise, so we had to work with smaller elevators and awkward staircases.  After the last project we completed down the hall, we knew we wanted a simpler delivery and installation process this time.  So we built the conference table in sections.  The whole thing was built in the shop, and finished together, and then taken back apart to get it into place.  Below, Brock is screwing the two skirt/drawer sections together.

This conference table measures in at eight and a half feet!  102"!!  I built six pencil drawers (three for each side).

This was a fun and challenging project to build.  I am so grateful for the work God has brought my business.  I know that 2016 is going to be another great year for Rustique Restoration!  Thanks for following along and for all of your support through out each year!

Mahogany Writing Desk and Custom File Cabinets

This summer my hubby and I teamed up to build this custom job for my client.  Everything is built out of gorgeous Mahogany wood.  My client had four black file drawers that he wanted to have faced with wood to look more sophisticated for his new office space in one of the historic Jefferson buildings in downtown Boise.  So my hubby and I designed a cabinet to house two file drawer units, with shaker style drawer fronts and face frames.

This was my first time building cabinet doors!  It was actually fun and once I built a couple, I got pretty quick at it and really enjoyed it.

Everything got a coat of Mahogany stain, and then one coat of Ebony.  These two pictures are before the Ebony.

The corner desk and file cabinets had to be installed before we could build our top.  The top had to be templated just like you would do with granite.  That gave us the best seams and custom fit.

I love all the huge windows in this office space!  Great views and a really luxurious historical feel to it.

After we had the corner cabinetry installed, we began to build the writing desk.  I designed it with a trestle base, using 5" solid wood posts for the legs.

We layered the foot of the desk with three pieces in different thicknesses and sizes to add character and make this thing solid and sturdy!  Using a router, I gave the edges a nice beveled detail.

I am so pleased with how this desk turned out!  The Mahogany is so rich and has a gorgeous grain to it.

We built a pencil drawer too.  Love the contract between the stained and the natural inside.

This entire project was sealed with six coats of satin Polyurethane to give it a long lasting protection.

We wrapped this project up just three weeks prior to my due date.  Several late nights turned early mornings trying to get it done to make the deadline!  It was hard, but we conquered it!  Whew!  Well, I hope you are all having an amazing October!  November is just around the corner.  Have a great week!

Custom Built Desk & Hutch

Wow!  Has it ever been awhile since I posted!  Sorry about that :)  I have been so busy, which is a great thing, until it's not.  Work is great, but too much work can be overwhelming.  I have been up to so much, but will get into all of that in another post!  For now, I'm sharing my latest custom job with you all.

My client needed some desk space for her two adorable little girls, so we designed something that would work perfect in the loft upstairs next to their bedrooms.  Two sitting spaces and wide open shelves for storage and decorating.  Here is my plan design before we got started.

My design consisted of two base cabinets, left open, with a scroll designed valence on each one.  Large Support Corbels, and a 5 1/2 ft. hutch for storage and display.

Once we had our initial plan down, we ended up turning the second computer tower cabinet into more open shelving.

I built everything out of solid wood and plywood.  And a lot of glue, nails, and screws! ;)  Then there was a lot of sanding and spackling to make sure everything was prepped perfectly for paint.

And here is our finished Custom Built Desk & Hutch installed!

And that's it for this project!  My client will be sending me a picture once she has it set up and decorated, and I'll be sure share it and update this post!  Thank you for stopping by and have a great week!

French Country Farmhouse Table and Decor

Today I'm sharing my latest restored farm table set, along with all the little French Country tableware's and decor. I don't know about you, but by January 1st, I'm ready for spring and summer!  I'm just a sunshine weather kind of girl.  The cold, dark winter days are just not on my favorite things list. ;)  But don't worry, I do realize I have a few more months of winter!

I wanted to give this farm table a rich country look, so I stained the top in one of my favorite chocolatey browns, called Provincial. (by Minwax).  I actually gave the top two coats of stain for a deeper, darker color.  I finished the top of the table and the benches with a wipe on Polyurethane.  The base of the table, benches, and the chairs are painted in the usual color of my choice, Vintage by Valspar.  I pick this up at Lowes.  It's just the perfect creamy white paint color.

I built two of my custom Vintage Benches to go with the table.  If you ask me, a farmhouse table always has to have at least one bench! :)

With all of this cold and dreary weather, I decided to brighten things up a bit at my shop.  I wanted a lot of white of course, and just enough blue!

Below, I used an old tin bucket to hold some greenery and vintage utensils.  I stencil painted a blue farm cow on the front, and then drilled two holes on each side so I could add the rope handles.  I love this little bucket now!

When rummaging through things at a vintage shop last week, I found this really neat little fruit crate.  Table Grapes of California. It has warm wood tones, and BLUE writing!  Perfect for my table scape!  This crate was actually the inspiration for the whole look.  I found two of these, so I decided to keep one for myself :)

When creating a display at the shop, I try to build up as much as possible to create height and more display space.  So I built this mini farmhouse bench using scrap wood from my workshop, and finished it to match the table.  I think it turned out adorable and I'm definitely going to be making more of these.  I may try all sorts of fun colors too.

I threw in a few copper accents and these really cool French canisters with copper lids.  These are some of my favorites!  And then there are the white canisters with the black label writing on them.  This set is available in my Etsy Shop.

I came across a couple of cute wooden chairs this past week as well.  One I left the original stained color, and the other I painted in a vintage creamy white and distressed it.  I threw in some blue and white ticking stripe, and whatever dishes I could find with that gorgeous blue patina.

And then there is the burlap table runner with the blue farmhouse cow.  I am in love with this runner!  I will definitely be making more of these and listing them in my Etsy Shop as well.  If this is something you're interested in ordering ahead of time, feel free to contact me via email!

And what's a French Country table scape without a little white cow creamer?  I just LOVE these cow creamers.  I get all giddy when I come across one!

The bowl tucked under the rest that has the sweet blue flowers on it is from France.. Just love it!

So there you have it.  My French Country Farmhouse table and decor.  I'm in love, and I hope you had fun looking at my gallery of pictures!  There were a lot!  Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and a great week!  Thank you as always for stopping by!
